Writing made sure to keep me busy all summer long. We haven’t even officially entered fall and I already have a full project list. And, none of those projects include novel writing! I don’t mean to sound self-important (though it kinda does), rather to prove my point about distractions.
Distractions are terrible.
They can set you back days, weeks or longer. And don’t even get me started on vacations! I’ll just say that before leaving for a week-long trip to Florida in June, I had a huge breakthrough in my novel. Unfortunately, after a week of day drinking at the most “magical place on Earth”, I returned to New York uninspired (and borderline alcoholic).
What We Need Is a Mantra from Distraction
In YOU ARE A WRITER, author Jeff Goins urges readers to claim the title by writing the phrase “I am a writer” everyday. He goes further by telling them to announce it to friends, family and across their social networks. The mantra puts the world on notice of the reader’s ambitions, while inspiring the action necessary to do so.
To that end, I decided it was time for a mantra as well. A mantra against distraction.Writers need a mantra against distraction! Click To Tweet
So to coincide with the beginning of fall, I designed The Wallpaper Against Distractions.
Use it on your computer, tablet or phone. Hang it on the wall you stare at when plagued by a blank page, or place it in your food (liquor) cabinet when you leave your desk to procrastin-eat (drink). Just like the distractions, the options are endless. It’s simple, understated and doesn’t get in the way of what’s most important… writing.
